Accelerating the Move to Alternatively Fueled Vehicles BPU working group suggests ramping up efforts to develop refueling stations, especially for electric cars and trucks.

Northeast Electric Vehicle Network --
the New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition will be participating on a regional team to expedite the deployment of electric vehicles in the region and promote the use of alternative fuels. The team, consisting of 10 northeastern states, the District of Columbia, other Clean Cities Coalitions in the region, and others, is part of an ongoing collaboration through the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI). NJCCC's activities will be funded by a nearly $1 million Grant awarded to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) by the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities Program on behalf of TCI.

Congratulations to NJCCC member Atlantic City Jitney Association on being selected to receive the prestigious 2011 NGV Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of natural gas as a vehicular fuel. In a project partially funded by a NJ Clean Cities grant, the Atlantic City Jitney Association replaced its entire fleet of 190 gasoline shuttle buses with new CNG shuttle buses, showing strong support for natural gas as a transportation fuel in the transit industry.

The New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition is pleased to announce its recent receipt of a 2011 EPA National Clean Diesel grant.

This project will repower 21 engines operating on 8 NY Harbor marine vessels with ARB-certified tier II engine technology. Once implemented, NJCCC estimates that the project will result in a projected annual savings of 125,000-175,000 gallons of diesel fuel as well as annual emissions reductions of 1.4 tons of particulate matter (PM), 3.5 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), 21.8 tons of NOx and 0.2 tons of hydrocarbons (HC) that will improve air quality in the New Jersey and New York region. Special thanks to NJ Clean Cities Coalition members Emisstar and Cummins Power Systems for their help in preparing the application and to the following vessel operators participating on the project: World Yacht, Millers Launch, Marco Polo Cruises and White Near Coastal.

Blue Diamond Disposal to open Morris County's First Compressed Natural Gas Filling Station

Using funds provided by the NJCCC's ARRA grant, Blue Diamond Disposal, a Mount Arlington solid waste and recycling company, recently awarded Clean Energy Fuels Corporation the contract to build, operate and maintain Morris County's first CNG filling station, and NJNG will provide the distribution infrastructure to support the delivery of natural gas to the filling station.

NJCCC's Covanta Energy project moves forward!

To support the growing demand for natural gas-fueled refuse vehicles in New Jersey, Clean Energy Fuels Corp., and Covanta Essex, a subsidiary of Covanta Energy Corporation, have been awarded a contract to site, build, and operate a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at the Port Authority-owned Essex County Resource Recovery Facility (ECRRF) in Newark, NJ. The CNG Fueling Station project, partially funded by the NJ Clean Cities Coalition's DOE ARRA grant, will be a convenient and effective way for public and private municipal waste haulers to convert their fleets of diesel vehicles to cleaner, more economical and more efficient compressed natural gas vehicles.
