Organized by the Transportation Energy Partners (TEP), the Energy Independence Summit (EIS) is a national effort between industry stakeholders and the 90+ Clean Cities coalitions that exist across the United States. This year's event, planned for March 26 through March 28, 2012, will be bigger and more important than ever as we seek to not only bring Clean Cities Coordinators to the Summit, but also our industry stakeholders. Plan to join us and to help make it possible to bring Coordinators from across the country to the Washington, DC area to receive and to provide educational briefings, exchange ideas, and meet with congressional members and staff.
TEP is an independent 501(c)(3) nationwide organization made up of Clean Cities coalitions and industry partners to:
• diversify away from petroleum alone in the transportation sector,
• put advanced vehicle technologies to work to improve fuel economy and reduce unnecessary oil consumption,
• create green economy jobs in the U.S., and
• improve local air quality and health and curb global climate change.
We accomplish this by supporting Clean Cities Coalitions and educating policymakers and others about the impact that coalitions make.
America needs solutions to energy dependence today. Local and statewide Clean Cities Coalitions are effective champions of energy independence with proven track records of developing projects to deploy alternative fuels and energy-saving vehicles and transportation technologies and conducting educational activities at the local level. Through our collective expertise and cohesive networks we can leverage real-world solutions now, provided we have the resources to get the job done.
TEP is proud to be a key partner in bringing Clean Cities Coalition representatives and their stakeholders together with their federal legislators and/or key staff members annually to talk about transportation energy change. While it is important to develop grassroots action at the local level, it is equally important for 1) legislators and their staffers to know what's going on in their districts or states, and 2) coalitions to communicate what kinds of federal action can help make change faster.
Much more information to come as our planning advances, but save the dates and please plan to support our efforts!
